Iveco and Hyundai unveil all-electric vehicle

The new vehicle based on Hyundai’s eLCV platform is set to launch into the European market later this year

Iveco has announced that it is set to take delivery of Hyundai Motor Group’s global all-electric light commercial vehicle platform (eLCV) soon after entering into a supply agreement with the manufacturer.

Iveco CEO Gerrit Marx and Hyundai CEO Jaehoon Chang were on hand at the supply agreement signing ceremony, which took place on February 1 at Hyundai’s headquarters in Seoul.

“The unique partnership between Iveco Group and Hyundai Motor Company is making another significant step forward,” Iveco truck business unit president Luca Sra says.

“The introduction of this new all-electric vehicle is particularly exciting for the European market, where urban and suburban distribution and delivery are crucial missions for logistics operators.

“We are confident that this agreement will not only strengthen our product offering but will also deepen our relationship with Hyundai, paving the way for continued collaborative projects that advance a more sustainable society.”

Under the partnership, Hyundai will manufacture and supply the Iveco chassis cab for the European market while Iveco will locally customise and distribute the complete vehicles through its sales channels.

The new Iveco vehicle is set to be the first export model to apply Hyundai’s eLCV platform. Iveco says the platform features Hyundai’s latest technology along with a low-floor design that allows enhanced usability for cargo loading and carrying.

Iveco says since commencing its partnership with Hyundai in 2022, it has generated solid results related to hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles, including the co-development of its eDAILY FCEV and the launch of its E-WAY FCEV city bus.

“We are delighted to further expand our partnership’s product portfolio by leveraging our new, all-electric light commercial vehicle platform,” Hyundai executive vice-president Ken Ramirez says.

“We believe our Global eLCV platform, coupled with Iveco Group’s expertise in the European market, will be a transformative force in the LCV market and contribute to the acceleration of a carbon-neutral future in Europe.”

The launch of the new vehicle is planned for the upcoming IAA Transportation 2024 that’s set to be held in Hannover, Germany between September 16-22.
