Isuzu basking in 36 years at the top

Isuzu says it has ended 2024 as Australia’s leading heavy commercial vehicle brand for the 36th year running
Isuzu has had another strong year of heavy commercial vehicles in 2024.

Following another year of record heavy vehicle sales in Australia, Isuzu Australia Limited is claiming the crown of being Australia’s market leader in heavy commercial vehicle sales for the 36th consecutive year.

The Truck Industry Council’s T-Mark data indicates there was a total of 51,277 heavy vehicles in 2024, over 13,000 of which were Isuzu branded.

The 13,402 trucks sold bearing the Isuzu badge accounts for a 26.1 per cent market share – one of the company’s greatest ever results.

IAL Chief of Sales and Aftersales Ben Lasry says the total number of truck sales in Australia surpassing 50,000 is a strong signal that the industry is performing well.

“Importantly for our industry, it’s heartening to see the Australian truck market in such a strong position following yet another record annual sales result,” Lasry says.

“This is the first time the Australian truck market has broken through the 50,000-unit mark, which is a noteworthy achievement for the industry at large.

“We’re pleased to finish on top again in 2024 and see the brand continue to perform fiercely across all market segments and weight categories.

“Our focus is always to deliver fit-for-purpose, reliable road transport solutions, and via our hardworking national dealer network, as the market results attest, we’re doing a good job in achieving that.”

Isuzu ended the year as Australia’s go-to truck in the light and medium-duty segments, where it sold 6805 and 4116 units respectively.

As a result, it held 46.7 per cent market share in a softening 2024 light-duty market segment, while it ticked over 50.6 per cent market share in the medium duty segment.

Isuzu also improved its heavy-duty market share to 14.5 per cent to finish as the third-most sold heavy duty truck in the country.

IAL Head of Sales Craig White is bullish that 2024’s strong truck sales performance can continue into 2025, even with the uncertainty of a looming federal election.

“From an industry perspective, I think last year’s results certainly exceeded the expectations of many,” White says. “It’s fantastic to see genuine and sustained strength in our sector.

“As we all know though, 2025 is an election year at the federal level, which can bring with it some uncertainty and, as an industry, we need to be prepared for that.

“When it comes to Isuzu, we’re buoyed by the fact our extensive product range performed exceedingly well last year.

“2025 is going to be massive for the brand and meeting customer demand across a range of industries will be our single-minded focus for the year to come.

“That is what ultimately drives the results.”

2025 will also be the first time in over 15 years Isuzu releases an all-new truck range to the Australian market.
