Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) is bolstering and restructuring key departments and positions ahead of the launch of its new model line-up later this year, and the company’s product team is the latest to add to its ranks.
With IAL’s new generation of models spanning every weight segment, Rajeev Pillai has been appointed as the Product Manager of the Light Duty segment.
The light-duty segment was Isuzu’s top-seller in 2024 with a total of 7906 units – or 45.8 per cent of Isuzu trucks sold – fitting into the category.
Truck Industry Council data indicates Isuzu owns over 50 per cent of Australia’s light-duty market in the first two months of 2025, with February data showing the manufacturer has sold 563 of the segment’s total 1023 trucks so far this year.
IAL Chief of Product Matt Sakhaie says Pillai’s appointment will only strengthen the rollout of the incoming light-duty line-up.
“We’ve got an enormous job of bringing all-new products to the Australian market, and a core plank of that rollout, for a range of reasons, is our light-duty offer in both an internal combustion format and battery electric,” Sakhaie says.
“This new range is a genuine game changer for the brand and industry overall. Having Rajeev join what is already an outstanding product team will assist Isuzu Australia in reinforcing its rock-solid, market-leading reputation.
“We’ve done a lot of groundwork to position our product division, focusing on solutions and tangible outcomes for our customer base.
“With Rajeev now on board at the lighter end of the spectrum and indeed a full house of talent across the department, we’re extremely confident coming into this exciting new chapter for the brand.”
Pillai has embarked on a 25-year career in the commercial heavy vehicle industry and has held product management roles other international manufacturers including Daimler, Volvo and Iveco.
He spent over a decade in engineering roles with Iveco Australia before spending over four years with Daimler, largely with its Fuso product.
“I’ve been lucky enough to work for some of the world’s leading heavy vehicle brands, but I’m extremely excited about this opportunity with Isuzu,” Pillai says.
“The light-duty offer has been such a strong part of the brand’s success in this country for many years and considering the rapidly changing transport needs of Australian businesses today, I see a new standard being set with this rollout.
“The technology Isuzu is bringing to market has been extremely well conceived and thoughtfully developed to meet the demands of Australian industry.”
