Ipswich Motorway upgrades underway

Work begins on $2.5 billion upgrade of the Ipswich Motorway south of Brisbane

Work has begun on the latest $2.5 billion upgrade of the Ipswich Motorway south of Brisbane to cater for growing traffic levels and boost road safety.

The multi-billion project will expand 10.5 kilometres of the motorway from four to six lanes, with a focus on improving design standards to reduce the rate of accidents.

Extra lanes will be constructed on both the eight kilometre stretch of road between Dinmore and Goodna as well as the 2.5 kilometre section of the motorway between the Logan Motorway Interchange and Sandy Creek.

Queensland Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace says a key aspect of the project will ensure the road meets the latest motorway design standards, such as improved alignment and sight distances.

The upgrades are due to be completed in 2012.
