International road transport convention coming to Melbourne

Austroads is co-hosting the Road Infrastructure for Road Transport Decarbonisation in Melbourne later this year

An international one-day Road Infrastructure for Road Transport Decarbonisation workshop will be run in Melbourne on October 10, 2024, and will be co-hosted by Austroads with the National Transport Research Organisation (NTRO) and the World Road Association (PIARC).

The workshop will discuss and share knowledge surrounding modern technology and policy considerations targeted at the further decarbonisation of road transport infrastructure.

On-road freight and passenger transport represent over 75 per cent of global inland transport and must decarbonise to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Sessions at the workshop will consider:

  • A range of national strategies and policies from around the world to decarbonise road passenger and freight transport and their objectives and deployment plans.
  • Electric road systems to decarbonise the road transport sector.
  • Road user solutions to decarbonise the road transport sector, including technology solutions.
  • Solutions for alternative energy production, including solar panels and wind turbines along the road.

Experts from around the world along with key figures in the Australasian region will convene at the workshop to disseminate current state-of-the-art practices and discuss ongoing opportunities and challenges in the wider realm of road infrastructure for road transport decarbonisation.

Registrations for the event are now open and available here.
