Updated options and new models headline International’s expanded vocational range
International Truck has expanded its vocational truck offering at the inaugural North American Commercial Vehicle Show overnight, announcing updates to the HX Series and unveiling the new HV Series.
The first service vehicles launched with the International A26 engine, the Navistar International subsidiary says its latest range has been designed to provide industry-leading uptime, improved fuel efficiency and quieter operation.
For the heavy-duty HX Series, the updates see the introduction of the A26 engine and 51-inch short sleeper cab options.
With four models in the series, two will be available with the new engine and two will be available with the new sleeper and the Cummins X15 engine.
“We’re thrilled to bring even more options to the vocational truck market with products that are redefining the standard for uptime and productivity,” Navistar truck and parts president Michael Cancelliere says.
“With the introduction of the International A26 engine on our off-highway products, we continue to raise the bar for vocational and severe-service vehicles by including our big bore engine that will reliably provide our customers with the power and versatility to meet any application.”
The International A26 is a 12.4-litre big bore engine with 475hp of power and 1,700 lb/ft of torque. Based on the MAN D26 engine platform, the A26 was launched in February this year for the heavy-duty long-haul market.
HV Series
Alongside the updated HX models, International Truck has also launched the new vocational HV Series at the event.
“The new International HV Series is just one more truck in our product lineup that puts drivers first and meets the gruelling demands of vocational applications,” Cancelliere says.
“The HV Series is a smart solution for our customers in the business of doing serious work and is a new breed of vocational truck that redefines the standard for uptime and productivity.
“It is the go-to truck for those who know that it’s not just about getting the job done, it is about getting it done right.”
Available in regular, extended and dual cab options, the truck maker says the HV Series features the Diamond Logic electric system for task automation, is capable of a range of vocational applications and has been redesigned with driver input.
“Customers and Truck Equipment Manufacturers (TEMs) have given us feedback during the design process and, as a result, we have made the highly versatile, rugged and reliable HV Series easy to integrate body solutions seamlessly,” Navistar global product development senior vice president Denny Mooney says.
“We’ve been building vocational trucks for over a century and in the HV Series our engineers have successfully incorporated driver feedback into a severe service truck designed to be easily configurable for any application.”
This feedback has transformed into greater glass on reshaped cab doors to improve visibility, reorganised pedestal mirrors to reduce driver head movement, a new dashboard design with space for 30 customisable switches and a new gauge cluster and an inside wheel cut of up to 50 degrees to improve manoeuvrability.
When it comes to engine options, customers have the choice of the A26 engine and the Cummins B6.7 and Cummins L9 engines.
Remote diagnostics and over-the-air programming is also available through the optional OnCommand Connection feature.
The new HV Series will be available in the US from March next year. Local details are yet to be announced.
