IntelliTrac joins RIM framework as TCA expands telematics access

Transport Certification Australia has registered IntelliTrac as a Road Infrastructure Management service provider, expanding telematics options for operators seeking improved access and productivity outcomes.

Transport Certification Australia has registered IntelliTrac as a new service provider for the Road Infrastructure Management application, adding another telematics option for operators looking to participate in approved access and productivity schemes.

The registration enables IntelliTrac to support transport operators enrolling vehicles in RIM schemes that use low-cost telematics data to help road managers better understand how heavy vehicles are using the network.

RIM enables enrolled vehicles to collect location, time and identity data, which is aggregated and de-identified before being shared with road authorities through the Telematics Analytics Platform. The data is used to support planning, investment, and network management decisions, while helping operators demonstrate road-use patterns linked to access approvals.

Austroads General Manager Service Delivery, Paddy Goodall, said RIM service providers play a critical role in connecting operators and road managers through a consistent data framework.

“By standardising data collection, RIM ensures information is gathered efficiently and cost-effectively, giving road managers a clearer picture of heavy vehicle movements across their networks,” Goodall said.

He said the model supports better infrastructure planning while allowing operators to participate in schemes that can improve productivity and safety outcomes.

For IntelliTrac, the registration marks a formal step into the national telematics framework overseen by TCA. Global Managing Director Dean Calapai said becoming a RIM service provider enables the company to support compliance while contributing to broader network efficiency.

“Being registered as a RIM service provider is an important step for IntelliTrac,” Calapai said. “It allows us to help operators meet compliance requirements while contributing to safer and more efficient road networks.”

Founded in 1987 and based in Bundoora, Victoria, IntelliTrac provides GPS tracking and fleet management systems across transport, logistics, government and emergency services. Its platform supports vehicle tracking, driver behaviour monitoring, route optimisation and compliance reporting.

The addition of IntelliTrac expands the pool of approved telematics providers available to operators participating in RIM-enabled schemes, as governments continue to rely on telematics data to support access reform, productivity initiatives and infrastructure planning.

A complete list of telematics schemes operating under the National Telematics Framework is available via Transport Certification Australia.
