Inland Rail releases workforce statistics

Over 550 people have been engaged to work on the Stockinbingal to Parkes section of the Inland Rail project

New employment data released by Inland Rail has shown more than 550 people have worked on the Stockinbingal to Parkes section, with 10 per cent of the workforce consisting of women.

Those metrics, which are accurate to the end of October 2024 look set to rise due to the Rail Readiness Course, which is a partnership between Inland Rail and the Stars Foundation, is delivered through First Nations training provider Yakka Training.

Local businesses in the section have enjoyed a cash injection of over $9.5 million spent across 102 local businesses from July 2023 to October 2024, while First Nations businesses have supplied more than $183,000 worth of services.

The Stockinbingal to Parkes section of the project includes sites at Daroobalgie, Forbes and the Lachlan River Bridge.

2025 is set to see construction commence at the Albury to Illabo and Illabo to Stockinbingal sections, while the Beveridge to Parkes section is hoped to have completed construction by the end of 2027.

Inland Rail Executive Director Program Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability Stephen Jones says as the Inland Rail project continues to progress, so will employment opportunities for locals in the regions

“As Inland Rail progresses to our goal of completing construction south of Narromine by 2027, there will be more and more opportunities for workers and businesses,” Jones says.

“Inland Rail is committed to creating employment opportunities through the Inland Rail Skills Academy as well as for those who already possess the skills needed on the Stockinbingal to Parkes section, with a strong focus on local employment.

“This once-in-a-generation project not only brings benefits Australia-wide, it is also providing ongoing opportunities and benefits at a local level.”
