The Inland Rail has announced that acting chief executive Rebecca Pickering has departed the position, with the Inland Rail having now appointed an interim CEO.

Pickering served in the role for more than two years after joining Inland Rail in 2018 and being appointed as acting chief in 2021.

Pickering led the company through the federal government’s independent Inland Rail review as well as assisting in implementing the review’s recommendations and creating a new Inland Rail subsidiary.

While undertaking a recruitment process for a new CEO, the Inland Rail has appointed chair Robert Rust as interim CEO and executive chair until the position is filled.

With more than 40 years of experience in the delivery of major projects in both the private and public sectors, Inland Rail says Rust has an acute understanding of the many complexities of delivering a major infrastructure project like Inland Rail.
