RACV says the new program will help transport workers remain safe on the roads
The Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) has begun offering a new online driver safety program created by its fleet and road safety experts.
The company’s Safety Policy Lead Elvira Lazar says the program was created to help protect the safety of people who drive for work, by teaching them to adopt a safety mindset.
According to Safe Work Australia, about one third of Australian workplace fatalities involve a vehicle and around 60 per cent of crashes are the fault of someone driving for work,” Lazar says.
“With our new Online Safe Driver Training program, we teach drivers to protect themselves and others by adopting a safety mindset that encourages them to understand the factors that increase crash risk and plan ahead to reduce that risk as much as possible.”

Lazar says these statistics are proof that transport operators can benefit from an online driver training course.
RACV General Executive Manager for Motoring and Mobility Phil Turnball says the program is an evolution of the company’s existing classroom-based program that it chose to develop after seeing demand from businesses for an online version.
“The online training covers every aspect of driver training and provides practical advice about the vehicle, the road and driver behaviours to keep drivers and everyone else on the road safe,” Turnbull says.
RACV’s training aligns with the Victorian Government’s Road Safety Strategy 2021 – 2030, which focuses on increasing safety for those using the road to get to work or for work.
