Qld Police flags border entry adjustment for freight

Border pass and Covid test compliance required for entry

Trucking operators entering Queensland have been reminded that, as of July 30, an appropriate freight and logistics pass must be obtained and displayed to enter the state.

Operators will also need adhere to a Covid-19 testing regime.

From 1am on Friday, heavy vehicles without an approved freight and logistics pass will not be permitted to cross the border and will be turned around.

“Crucially, drivers will be required to prove they have completed the necessary Covid-19 testing regime, which includes evidence of a recent (within 7 days) negative Covid-19 test result if they have been in a declared Covid-19 hotspot.

“Drivers coming from the New South Wales Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Fairfield, Liverpool, Bankstown, Cumberland, Blacktown, Parramatta, Campbelltown and Georges River will have to produce evidence of having a Covid-19 test result within three days of attempting to enter Queensland.

“Operators are encouraged to view locations of Covid-19 heavy vehicle driver testing facilities service centres and roadhouses that are still open during the Covid-19 trading restrictions.”

Queensland Police added it has been working closely with the trucking industry to ensure drivers understand the new border pass requirements.

In recent days, more than 75 heavy vehicles have been turned around at the border for invalid border passes or other compliance issues.

Ongoing random intercepts of vehicles entering Queensland through the road network and a high-visibility policing presence will continue, to ensure travellers comply with the state chief health officer’s directions to help reduce the spread of Covid-19.

The Queensland Transport Association (QTA) urges industry vigilance.

“Please be extremely diligent in checking the status of all of your drivers’ Border Entry passes and that they will comply with the testing requirements on entry to Qld,” the state industry body said.

“Please also ensure that any drivers engaged through subcontracting arrangements and labour hire companies are informed of these procedures and have the required paperwork with them.”
