The Queensland Trucking Association (QTA) announces funding for a two-year micro-credentialing initiative, under the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training Micro-credentialing Pilots Program.

The Road Freight Resilience Program (RFRP), which begins next year, is designed specifically for transport and logistics operators and businesses and will deliver short online courses focusing on improving safety, efficiency, and productivity.

There will be three streams:

  • Get on the Right Road – giving businesses the fundamentals
  • Keep on the Right Road – increasing business capability
  • Explore New Roads – identifying opportunities for efficiency and new markets.

According to the QTA, the funding will support road freight operators with practical and relevant courses which will increase their technical, digital and soft skill capability to improve business viability, productivity and efficiency.

"Based on the needs of our industry we have selected ten course topics, from managing critical incidents to effective freight job costing through to utilising social media for business," QTA CEO Gary Mahon says.

Mahon notes that it has been an extremely busy year for road freight operators and there has not been as much time for investment in training or upskilling.

"This project will cater to the needs of small to medium business and the course is designed to be delivered online and able to be completed within one-hour timeframes," he says.

"We are also excited to announce a trial of a Digital Skills Passport which will capture evidence of any completed course into an online portal.

"One thousand passports will be offered and will complement the RFRP to manage completed courses, acquired skills and training history.

"The trial is an important step in recognising the high level of skill and knowledge required to operate a transport and logistics business in the current economic climate.

"Being able to recognise any skill set whether accredited or non-accredited will give recognition to the professional skills required to work within the transport industry.

"The RFRP will provide operators and business owners with confidence to lead their businesses and stay viable into the future."

The RFRP courses will be online from February 1, however, pre-sale is now open.

The full 10-course bundle is available for $95 and will offer access to the live interactive course webinars or watch later on-demand.
