South Australian operator Northline hails its appointment as the freight and logistics provider for the construction of Cann Group’s $130 million medical cannabis facility in Mildura.

It calls the deal a major endorsement of its international freight capabilities, with the project secured through an international partnership in the Netherlands.

Listed medical cannabis research and development firm Cann was established in 2014, and was the first company to be issued with a Cannabis Research Licence by the Australian government’s Office of Drug Control (ODC) in February 2017.

Northline offered a glimpse into this deal in an earlier interview with ATN

"Northline’s ability to deliver end to end freight solutions from anywhere in the world and seamlessly integrate into our national network led to us being contracted for the project which includes management of the import clearance and delivery," the company notes.

"Around 200, 40-foot containers from Rotterdam and Thailand will be imported into Australia for the project, with Northline managing the AQIS inspection of each container prior to being cleared for site delivery.

"The contract also includes the transport of oversized machinery, which requires unpacking and steam cleaning prior to delivery.

"Under the contract, we will also handle several airfreight shipments."

It comes as Northline’s sales team is boosted with the promotion of two team members into senior leadership roles.

Rob Baigent becomes head of sales while Ed Milham is the new national sales manager.

"These appointments will strengthen our resources and provide additional support for our sales team and customers," the company says

"Rob Baigent started with Northline two years ago.

"He will join the executive team as head of sales and will oversee major account managers, state sales managers and the international freight management team.

"Ed Milham takes up the role of national sales manager with responsibility for customer service, internal sales, contract coordination, specialised quotes, tenders and regional sales managers.

"Ed began his journey with Northline as part of the graduate program and just recently celebrated 10 years of service."
