Linfox cements Port Kembla warehousing presence

New facility complements its Illawarra bulk haulage operations

Linfox has grown its footprint in New South Wales’ Illawarra region, moving in to a newly built site in Port Kembla.

Built largely on the back of a bulk haulage contract in the area, the site comprises 11,500sqm hardstand, automated truck wash, parking for specialised Lin-Double vehicles and accommodation for team members and drivers.

“The site is strategically located on a key haulage route and is the operational centre for a bulk haulage contract for a valued customer,” the company notes.

“The custom-built site is designed to reduce travelling distance and work smarter.”

Last year, Linfox and South32 linked to produce a ‘Lin-Double’ combination to service the mining company’s Illawarra Metallurgical Coal operations.

As part of a new six-year contract, the Linfox custom-ordered unit forms a fleet of 25 to “address the unique challenges of coal haulage in the region”.

Linfox has been busy on the fleet and warehousing front this year, having recently ordered some 100 new Volvos and earlier completing its Willawong hub, south of Brisbane.

Strategically located near major highways and the Acacia Ridge Intermodal Terminal, the site holds its 26,000-square-metre facility and new state head office.

The Linfox Intermodal team manages rail and road distribution from the nine-hectare site, which also houses a number of consumer and healthcare customers, multiple temperature-controlled facilities, modern fleet workshop operations, truck wash and fuelling facilities.

“Our new super-site is ready to support Linfox and our customers, as our multi-modal freight networks continue to grow stronger throughout Queensland,” Linfox CEO Mark Mazurek said at the times.

“We have bolstered total warehouse space by 50 per cent, increased the temperature-controlled footprint to five times its former size and doubled our healthcare capacity.”
