Transfleet Transport founder charted growth path over 38 years
The port transport sector and trucking more broadly is mourning the death of industry stalwart and Transfleet Transport founder and MD Bill Power.
Under his leadership, family firm Transfleet grew from a Melbourne haulage firm that began in 1982, through expansion into Sydney in 2006 to now also having a presence in Brisbane.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Bill Power, father to Angela Williams and Adam Power,” Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA) director Neil Chambers tells members.
“Bill would be known to many as he was active in the transport business from his early 20s and never fully retired.
“Bill loved the transport industry, and grew the Transfleet business around exceptional hands-on customer service. Bill was a generous, genuine and loveable man, and he will be greatly missed by all whom he has touched over his very full life.
“I was always grateful for Bill’s advice and counsel from the early days of CTAA.”
A former Australian Rules footballer for South Melbourne – debuting as a 19-year-old and wearing the number 39.
Power played 51 games and scored 27 goals between 1957 and 1961, playing on the wing or in the centre, “suggesting a liking for getting forward when the opportunity presented itself”, sports archive australianfootball.com states.
