New CIO for Toll as cybersecurity issues persist

Lee is the new appointment as Russo departs for Tabcorp

In a turbulent year for the Toll Group, particularly on the cybersecurity front, details have emerged on a leadership change in its IT department.

In a move that only came to light after gambling entertainment firm Tabcorp announced the appointment of Françoise Russo, the former Toll chief information officer (CIO) has been succeeded by King Lee, the company tells ATN.

The transition period reportedly ended around March, with Lee arriving from General Electric (GE), where he spent more than two decades at various arms, most recently as general manager – global operations Asia Pacific.

Russo joined Toll in 2016 and oversaw a $400 million IT transformation program to modernise and standardise Toll’s systems after years of acquisitions left it with “550-600 different IT systems“.

Toll confirmed that program is still ongoing and Lee will oversee its final completion.

“Today we welcomed our new Chief Information Officer (CIO), Françoise Russo, to our executive leadership team,” Tabcorp says in a short statement today.

“We’re excited to have Françoise on board to lead our technology team.”

The timing of the transition is notable as Toll battles a second wave of ransomware attacks in May after suffering its first in late January.

Toll says the incidents are unrelated and it continues to work with authorities on a resolution.
