CTAA welcomes Containerchain payment flexibility
Containerchain is offering payments flexibility

Talks between Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA) and booking platform operator Containerchain has seen agreement to extend the latter’s payment terms to 21 days.

The move from 14 days aims to assist Australian container transport operators manage cash-flows during the unprecedented coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic.

The 21 days payment terms will be available to transport operators for notification fee invoices for a period of three months from March, the pair says.

The payment terms’ extension will be kept under review as container logistics trade continues to be affected by the current global health emergency.

Containerchain MD Chris Collins says the decision "shows our support and commitment to being an industry focused technology provider for the benefit of the industry.

"We too are feeling the economic impact of the current global downturn in trade, but we want to ensure that we work with the Australian container logistics sector to get through this current crisis as best we can together."

CTAA, which raised the issue some weeks ago and sees the agreement as a win that should resonate beyond container transport, is thankful for Containerchain’s cooperation.

"The current downturn in trade is having a significant cash-flow impact on container transport operators," CTAA director Neil Chambers says.

"The willingness of Containerchain to assist the sector in these current difficult economic circumstances is welcomed.

"Also, we are continuing to work with Containerchain to address systems’ issues that impact on the fees paid by transport companies for access into Australia’s empty container parks.

"This includes addressing the issue of cancelled or unused notification slot bookings that are not the fault of the transport operator not being charged a notification fee."

Containerchain invoices generated from April 1 for March notification fees will have payment terms of 21 days.
