Move follows 18 months of hand-over work from VicRoads
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has a new Victorian home, state roads minister Jaala Pulford announces.
The official opening of the Port Melbourne office is part of the transition of state-delivered heavy vehicle control into national hands.
The move comes after an 18-month transition of safety and compliance from VicRoads, following similar moves in South Australia Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory in the past three years.
In December, roadside enforcement, investigations and prosecution, plus information services were handed over the NHVR.

The 54 NHVR staff, including 43 safety and compliance officers, in the state will operate from the state headquarters as well as regional offices in Geelong, Ballarat Bendigo, Morwell, Mildura and Shepparton.
“This transition is another step in reducing the impact6 of state borders on the movement of freight across Australian,” NHVR chair Duncan Gay says.
“While operators will see a different logo on our vehicles and different uniforms, the NHVR is working to make the transition as seamless as possible.”
