NHVR issues access advice for operators

Top tips item aims to simplify NHVR Portal and reduce application wait time

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has released a guide to its portal to help operators reduce permit application processing times.

The top tips guide spotlights five areas where applicants can facilitate faster turnaround, including:

  • use detailed mapping
  • include axle spacing
  • provide accurate mass breakdowns
  • specify ground contact width
  • include tyre size

NHVR access manager Roger Garcia sees the short guide is being aimed at addressing common errors and questions when applying for access permits.

“Following these simple tips makes it faster and easier for us to process your permit applications,” Garcia says.

“The guide answers some common questions and gives step-by-step advice on how to input things like mapping and axle spacing.

“Bookmark the page or print it out and keep it handy for the next time you’re putting in an application.”

The regulator also announces that the Vehicle Standards service will be available in the NHVR Portal from 4pm Wednesday, October 16.

“This is another step towards giving industry a single source of business information, streamlining interactions and linking NHVR’s services,” it says.

“Vehicle Standards applications for In-Principle Support, Exemption Permits and Modifications will be able to be lodged through the NHVR Portal.”

Operators will also be able to attach engineers reports, images, diagrams or schematics for vehicles.

“In the future, these records will be able to be uploaded to the NHVR Portal when the vehicle is purchased, reducing paperwork and simplifying processes when applying for permits.”

More new services are planned to join the NHVR Portal in the coming months, including National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS), the regulator adds.
