Phoenix rising with warehousing expansion push

Company’s green facility focus reaping benefits

Logistics provider Phoenix Transport has shed light on its warehousing expansion, consolidating its Sydney build three years ago alongside a new Brisbane facility due for completion in 2020 – with a distinct green focus.

The NSW-headquartered company, with presence in Queensland, has set its sights on a new base in Berrinba, entering into a 10-year lease agreement for a 9,999sqm facility – 9,654sqm of which comprises warehousing space.

The company is set to move in to the South West 1 Industrial Estate around September 2020.

The new warehouse is targeting a 5 Star Green Star Design and As Built rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.

It follows a move to the 6 Star Green Star facility at Horsley Drive Business Park three years ago.

That facility comprises capacity for 8,000+ pallets in racking and more than 850m2 of block stack area.

Phoenix Transport director Jacqui Winters lauded the company’s partnership with property developer Frasers Property, in particular its green focus which has driven business efficiencies in energy and water savings.

“We were looking to grow our eastern seaboard presence and were lucky to get involved with this project,” she tells ATN.

“Since we have moved [in Sydney] there have been energy savings with the building.”

Other outfits such as Nolan’s Transport have also been making moves in warehousing

Frasers lists that facility as including electronic vehicle charging points, geothermal air conditioning, LED lighting to all warehouse and office areas, Solar PV system to generate renewable energy for use on site, air source heat pump hot water system and 10 per cent translucent roof sheeting to provide high levels of daylight.

“Frasers were into the environmental space and we wanted to jump on board,” Winters says.

The company’s moves in the warehousing space characterises a consolidation path for the company established in 1993.

It operates more than 160 vehicles in Sydney and Brisbane, with the warehousing moves forming a growth strategy in general freight and 3PL.
