Mitchells grows with TRAC livestock acquisition

Purchase boosts company’s Esperance Livestock Transport division

Western Australian livestock hauler Mitchell’s Transport has snapped up TRAC Transport’s sheep and cattle cartage division.

As previously reported by Fairfax, the transaction boosts Mitchell’s subsidiary, Esperance Livestock Transport, which was established with one vehicle in 2016.

It will expand its venture from carting cattle to include sheep.

The newly acquired service will continue to operate out of the former TRAC yard and will retain existing staff “to integrate without losing its local Esperance identity”, CEO John Mitchell tells ATN.

The full fleet will grow from 18 to 24 vehicles, which Mitchell says comprises Kenworth and Volvo prime movers and combinations ranging from rigids to 53m road trains.

The Waroona-headquartered company dates back to the 1940s and is now a third-generation family business servicing the agriculture and livestock industries in Western Australia.

TRAC will retain its bulk cartage service.
