Wettenhalls recently completed the acquisition of Allied Transport Services, citing a desire for further expansion into construction and infrastructure sectors, with its new business arm named Wettenhalls Heavy Haulage and Specialised Services.

The purchase of the Geelong-based transport company added machinery, over-dimensional and heavy haulage services to its portfolio.

With operations in Geelong, and an operating reach from Warrnambool along Australia’s east coast to Townsville, Wettenhalls was looking to expand its offering in the Victorian construction market, Wettenhalls Mike Lean CEO noted after the purchase was finalised late last month.

"Wettenhalls has been building its exposure to the construction sector since 2014 and we’ve been looking for opportunities to expand our service offerings in the broader infrastructure market," Lean says.

"In Allied Transport Services we found an extremely well-run and professional transport company whose service profile neatly aligned with where we were looking to grow.

"Together we will be able to build our offering to support Victoria and the nation’s future growth."

Allied was a business started by Angelo and Leah Lociuro, starting as a panel-beating business, before moving into towing and then large machinery and heavy haulage.

It services customers in construction, manufacturing, road, civil, mining, shipping, farming, engineering, crane relocation as well as hire and access equipment.

Wettenhalls notes its construction and infrastructure expansion included delivering components for developments such as the Westgate Tunnel project, the Murray Basin project, the CityLink-Tulla widening project and the GMHBA Stadium redevelopment.

The Allied acquisition brings to it a fleet of tilt trays including super-tilt, crane trucks, low loaders, pilot vehicles, steerable extendables, platform and ultra-low vessel trailers.

The Wettenhalls Heavy Haulage and Specialist Services division offers end-to-end transport solutions including project management, route surveys, engineering design, feasibility studies and all permit approvals.

Wettenhalls, which started as Amezdroz and Menzies in Colac in 1925, has a workforce that expanded to about 400 with the acquisition, it notes, with no job losses as a result of the process.
