Top Queensland industry apprentices recognised

TAFE Queensland announces inaugural Apprentice of the Year across three categories

A number of apprentices were awarded for their achievements throughout the year in an initiative that highlights encouraging signs for the future of industry.

In particular, Braiden McAlpine took out TAFE Queensland SkillsTech’s inaugural Heavy Commercial Vehicle Apprentice of the Year for outstanding achievement in the heavy commercial vehicle category.

TAFE Queensland notes McAlpine was selected by the judges as the apprentice that best represented the key attributes of attitude, attendance, performance and aptitude throughout his apprenticeship.

He receives a $250 Shell Coles Express gift card as part of his award, and will also experience a weekend with Shell V-Power Racing Team at the Ipswich SuperSprint Supercars round in July 2019.

Viva Energy co-sponsored the event, with transport lubricants sales manager Rob Cavicchiolo congratulating McAlpine on his achievement.

“It’s fantastic to present this award to a young, enthusiastic apprentice who is obviously excelling in his chosen field,” Cavicchiolo says.

“We look forward to having more contact with him over the next year.

“I am also delighted that Viva Energy is entering a new partnership with TAFE Queensland and we look forward to supporting them with information about the most up-to-date developments in lubricant technology.”

The Light Automotive Apprentice of the Year was won by Tyson Hubber, while Josiah Gaul was announced the Mobile Plant/Diesel Fitting Apprentice of the Year.

Viva Energy co-sponsored the inaugural award with Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA) as part of a new partnership with TAFE Queensland to provide support training for the next generation of Australian automotive and heavy-duty diesel technicians.

TAFE Queensland apprentices will have access to technical experts in automotive lubrication, development opportunities through formal training in the use of world-class products, and ongoing technical assistance through a field-based team of technicians.
