ARTIO NSW to throw light on blockchain

Pragnell to speak on the technology’s implications for the industry

Much hype has been aimed at transport and logistics on expected gains from blockchain use, yet the reality remains unclear to many.

In an effort to cast light in a way meaningful for trucking in New South Wales, the state branch of Australian Road Transport Industrial Organisation (ARTIO) has secured financial services expert Dr Brad Pragnell as guest speaker at its next Transport Industry Leaders Dinner with a view to demystifying what blockchain is and exploring its potential for real-world application.

“Few recent developments have generated as much interest, or confusion, as the rise of distributed ledger or blockchain technology, in its well-known guise of BitCoin,” ARTIO NSW secretary/treasurer Hugh McMaster says.

“Though many of us struggle to understand what it is, blockchain technology may have significant implications for the transport and logistics sector.

Pragnell is an experienced payments clearing and superannuation policy expert.

“He is able to bust through the jargon around blockchain as a new technology and explore what it may (and may not) mean for our future,” McMaster says.

“Dr Prqgnell will also explore the potential for real-world applications, including potential uses in the transport and logistics sector.

“This is a free event, which is part of ARTIO NSW’s Transport Industry Leaders Dinner series, which is proudly sponsored by TWUSuper.”

To register for the June 19 event at the Sir Stamford at Circular Quay in Sydney  or for further information, contact Hugh McMaster via email, hughmc@artionsw.com.au or telephone 0412 880 861.
