SA rock attacks around expressway pass 30 mark

Truck driver reports latest vehicle stoning but thrower escapes

The occurrences of rock-throwing at vehicles including trucks along Adelaide’s Southern Expressway have turned into a spate.

In the most recent incident, South Australian police (SAPOL) say a truck driver reported that he was driving south along the Southern Expressway when a rock struck his windscreen as he passed under the Seacombe Road Bridge at Darlington about 2.40pm.

The driver was not injured in what in the state is “the 32nd rock throwing incident in the area so far this year”.

“Police searched the area with the assistance of Police Dog Zac and the police helicopter, but did not locate any suspects,” SAPOL says.

“The Southern Expressway was also searched with no rocks or items located on the roadway.

“Any motorists who becomes a victim of objects being thrown at their car while driving is asked to stop their vehicle when safe and contact the Police Assistance line immediately on 131 444.

“Anyone with information about any incident of rock throwing is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

Rock-throwing incidents, especially against trucks and quite often in Moree, have sparked deep concern in the elements of the industry in the eastern states, with drivers fearing the worst is just a matter of time.
