Leading local terminal tractors firm Daysworth International has rejuvenated the Diamond Reo truck brand.

A one-time White Motor Corporation subsidiary in the US, Diamond Reo was a heavy duty road truck that graced Australian highways over the past three decades but the firm hit the wall in 2013.

Vodanovich Brothers, then trading as the Australian Diamond Reo, assembled and sold the Diamond Reo Giant in the 1980s.

"The Diamond Reo road trucks are an exceptional addition to the Australian Transport network. With proven reliability and performance, the Diamond Reo Road trucks are leaders in its class," Daysworth International Group of Companies executive chairman and managing director Ivan Vodanovich says.

Diamond Reo was renowned as "The world’s toughest truck" and a 2006 book on the make carries just that title.

Now, Daysworth has taken the covers off its subsidiary’s two new models at the Megatrans event in Melbourne.

The Diamond Reo Giant is a 540hp (403kW) 6x4 prime mover aimed at urban haulage.

Also taking a bow is the Diamond Reo Construction Range, represented by the 8x4 tilt-tray vehicle.

The 8x4 is also available as a tipper, water tanker, hook lift and crane truck.

The re-introduction of Diamond Reo road truck has been a nine-year project for Daysworth International.

"The new generation of the Diamond Reo Giant has been extensively tested off shore and in Australia since 2015," the company states.

"The new generation of the Diamond Reo road truck has proven itself with over 1 million kilometres of testing in the harshest Australian road conditions."

The Diamond Reo range will be supported by 40 years of Daysworth expertise and a national network of dealers underpinned by a substantial parts and service infrastructure, it adds.
