GPS comes to stolen garbage truck rescue

IT proves worth to South Australian waste fleet owner and police

An unnamed Adelaide waste firm has its in-vehicle GPS equipment to thank for getting one of its trucks back, according to South Australia Police.

The drama began just after midnight today, when a driver had parked his rubbish truck near the intersection of East Terrace and Grenfell Street and returned short time later to find it missing.

The vehicle was fitted with a tracking device which directed police to the Gilberton area.

“Patrols quickly saturated the suburb and found the truck abandoned in Northcote Terrace,” police say.

“The suspect was located nearby and arrested.”

A 37-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with illegal use, driving under the influence, unlicenced driving and refusing a breath test.

He was been refused bail and was to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
