HVTT15 extends deadline for abstracts

Global event to examine impact of social complexities on innovation

The deadline for submission of abstracts to a global heavy vehicle conference has been extended.

The event, the 15th International Symposium on Heavy Vehicle Transport Technology (HVTT15), to be held next October 2-5, is now open to abstracts until November 30.

An International Forum for Road Transport Technology (IFRTT) event, the HVTT is the leading international event dealing with heavy vehicle policy and practice, is held every two years and has had significant Australian input.

“The HVTT symposia have twice been held in Australia, in Maroochydore in 1998 and Melbourne in 2010,” a spokesperson tells ATN.

“Australia has a long history of contributions and delegates to the symposia ever since the first one in Canada in 1986.

“Symposium delegates are always interested in hearing about advances in Australia, whether the topic be B-double size and weight or research into couplings while in recent years papers on Performance Based Standards have received particular attention.

“Australia has four members of the IFRTT board of trustees, including the secretary, Rob Di Cristoforo.”

The event will focus on how to integrate fast technological and socio-economic developments that affects road freight transport in existing structures: ageing infrastructure, mature cities, established market structures and social order, and ingrained habits.

“The aim is to adapt the road freight transport system to an increasing social and economic complexity, against technological opportunities, and with significant safety and environmental constraints,” IFRTT vice-president Europe and HVTT15 general chair Loes Aarts says.

An innovation for HVTT15 will be a Young Talent Program.

Organisers say HVTT15 “will foster the exchange of knowledge between young researchers and more experienced participants to the conference with two special Young Talent Sessions of one hour each and a winner of an HVTT Young Talent Award”.

“The HVTT offers a worldwide platform for researchers, policy makers, regulators, road agencies, heavy vehicle manufacturers and suppliers and the transport industry, to exchange knowledge and experiences in order to support the development of a safe, sustainable, efficient and productive road freight transport,” they say.
