Australia Post reports record gender pay parity

Beating the national average, the postal enterprise has achieved zero per cent pay gap

Dedicated programs addressing pay equity have resulted in Australia Post reporting a zero per cent gender pay gap this year.

It is the second time the company has conducted an annual pay analysis between male and female employees, with results improving from 1.4 per cent difference reported last year.

The result means Australia Post has broken the national average of 16 per cent gender pay gap.

Women account for 37.5 per cent of all management staff including, the CEO, CFO, deputy chair and company secretary.

Acting MD and Group CEO Christine Corbett attributes the record gender pay parity to targeted programs and the company’s efforts to nurture talent.

“Australia Post is one of the largest employers in the country, so we are extremely pleased to report that we have reached an average zero per cent pay gap – which underlines our position as a leader when it comes to diversity and inclusion,” Corbett says.

“Over the last seven and a half years we have focused on improving the representation of women across all levels of leadership and addressing unconscious bias.

“This culminated in October 2015 when we launched our landmark Gender Action Plan to focus and fast-track professional development.

“Since then, we have seen a concerted effort across the board to recognise and champion our female workers.

“In the last 12 months, over 400 women have participated in our career development programs, which have been instrumental in identifying and nurturing talent.”

Analysing the pay and roles of over 34,000 staff, Australia Post reported that from June 30, 2016 to June 30, 2017, women accounted for:

  • 44.4 per cent of all board members, up from 33.3 per cent
  • 37.5 per cent of all management staff, up from 36.4 per cent
  • 17.7 per cent of all delivery managers, up from 14.4 per cent
  • 53.6 per cent of all postal managers, up from 51 per cent
  • 37.7 per cent of executives, up from 35.4 per cent.

The announcement comes ahead of Australia Post hosting a ‘Celebrating women’ event in Melbourne today.

The event is part of an online campaign committing to celebrate the contribution of women, from all walks of life and from anywhere in the world, every single day in 2017.
