NHVR releases detailed combinations chart

Initiative supports the regulator’s National Harmonisation Program

NHVR releases detailed combinations chart
The Common Heavy Freight Vehicle Combinations chart

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator has released a new chart showing 39 common heavy vehicle combinations, with details about weight limits, length and vehicle classes.

The Common Heavy Freight Vehicle Combinations chart would assist operators to understand some of the key conditions required to access the road network.

"This is a user-friendly tool which will contribute to a better understanding of our industry and will help everyone understand and comply with the national heavy vehicle regulation," NHVR national harmonisation manager Matthew Bereni says.

"The combinations are categorised into six groups – general access rigid trucks, general access semitrailer combinations, class 3 rigid truck and trailer combinations, class 2 B-double combinations, class 2 type 1 road trains and class 2 type 2 road trains."

The chart will also support the NHVR’s National Harmonisation Program, which is working with the heavy vehicle industry on four new national notices for B-doubles, road trains, higher mass limits and agricultural vehicles and combinations.

The NHVR also welcomed the support of the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) which said the document would complement the ATA/ITC Truck Impact Chart technical advisory procedure (TAP), which also compares different truck combinations.

"This is a valuable publication for common heavy vehicle combinations covered by the HVNL," ATA senior engineer Chris Loose says.

"It will assist with greater understanding of higher productivity vehicles and the recently released second edition of the ATA/ITC Truck Impact Chart TAP."
