Australia’s most fuel-efficient truck drivers crowned

Tasmanian tanker driver Kerri Connors takes out Australia's top spot in the Volvo Trucks Drivers' Fuel Challenge

The six existing state winners competed alongside an additional 11 dealer-nominated and national fleet drivers across two days of intensive finals.

The Volvo Trucks Drivers’ Fuel Challenge semi- and grand finals took place in Brisbane last week, in what were a true display of trucking skill and passion.

The first day’s semi-finals saw the field of 17 whittled down to nine finalists, with stiff competition all round!

The grand final the following day didn’t take long to heat up, but there could only be one winner.

Kerri Connors of Caltas took out the title of Australia’s most efficient truckie in this year’s Drivers’ Fuel Challenge, a triumph that has her set to compete in Gothenburg later this year.

Cameron Simpson of Simpsons Fuel took out the off-road component of the Volvo Trucks Drivers’ Fuel Challenge, making him the first Australian to compete in Sweden in the international off-road component of the Challenge.

Kerri and Cameron will compete at the international finals in Gothenburg against the very best drivers from around the world.

“Both drivers can be extremely proud of their achievement,” Vice President of Volvo Trucks Australia Mitch Peden said.

“Not least because we think this competition was tougher than usual because of the way we selected the competitors.

“Highlighting the huge impact every driver has on a company’s fuel consumption, out of the 9 drivers in the final, Kerri completed the challenging on-road course using 7.8% less fuel than least efficient driver in this year’s final, and keeping in mind these are the best of the best.

“In a real-world scenario, that equates to massive savings for operators.”

Bring it home for Australia, Kerri!
