Lamington National Park Road reopens under restricted traffic conditions
Gold Coast’s Lamington National Park Road is now open to traffic after weeks of repair following Cyclone Debbie.
There will be speed restrictions in place and drivers will face slow traffic movement until the surrounding repair work is completed, Queensland main road and roads safety minister Mark Bailey warns.
He says the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is making good progress in restoring road infrastructure following last month’s windstorm.
“Repairing the road network is our top priority and it’s great news that the Lamington National Park Road has reopened,” Bailey says.
Long-term repairs are being carried out at the Pine Creek Road, while TMR is also making headway on the reconstruction of the John Muntz Causeway.
“A temporary fix was implemented on Pine Creek Road only 36 hours after it was damaged, but longer-term repairs are currently underway,” Bailey says.
“We hope to have these works completed in the coming months.
“Meanwhile gas and power utilities works are ongoing at the John Muntz Causeway site and repairs to the causeway have begun with access on the causeway expected to be restored mid-year, weather permitting.”
