Julie Russell of RB Russell Transport has been elected QTA president for 2017-2018.

Following its annual general meeting on April 11, the Queensland Trucking Association (QTA) has elected Julie Russell of RB Russell Transport to the position of president.

Russell is the support services director at RB Russell Transport and is responsible for the strategic direction of the business. She becomes the first female president of the QTA, replacing Ben Almond.

"It is with a great amount of pride that we welcome Julie to the role of QTA president for the 2017-18 year," says QTA CEO Gary Mahon.

"RB Russell Transport have been long standing members of the association and have strong traditions at the QTA with her father Phil holding the position of president between 1990-1993.

"Following the success of our recent International Women’s Day functions where the theme was: ‘Queensland Women: Be Involved … Lead the Way’, we are extremely pleased that Julie’s leadership is acknowledged with her election as our new president."

Russell was excited at taking on the role as QTA president.

"I look forward to working with my fellow directors and CEO to set the strategic direction of the association and ensure we are agile to the ever changing demands on our industry," Russell says.

Paul Kahlert of All Purpose Transport was elected vice president, while Tracie Dickenson of Daryl Dickenson Transport was elected treasurer.

Six more directors, elected for the 2017 year, were Ben Almond, Hallco Industries; Tim Knowles, Speedie Contractors; Alex Tenkate, Major Training Group; Luke Roberts, Emerald Carrying Company; Bryan Smith, Rocky’s Own Transport; and David Simon, Simon National Carriers.

Peter Renton and Mark Webb retired from their positions on the QTA board of directors.
