ARTIO NSW to hold GCCD briefings

Sessions to be held in Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle in the first week of May

The Australian Road Transport Industrial Organisation (ARTIO’s) NSW branch will hold three meetings next month to update operators on the recent changes to carriage contract rules in NSW.

ARTIO NSW secretary/treasurer Hugh McMaster reminds road operators that the varied NSW General Carriers Contract Determination means, for the first time, a new rate structure will cover journeys from Sydney to either Newcastle or Wollongong.

“This Determination, which covers certain principal contractor/owner-driver (or contract carrier) relationships has been substantially transformed following several years of negotiation with the Australian Road Transport Industrial Organisation NSW branch and other organisations with an interest in this industrial instrument,” McMaster says.

“For the first time, coverage will also extend beyond general freight sectors of the industry such as the retail and grocery items, containers and steel to sectors such as refrigerated transport and furniture removals.”

Maurice Baroni, who presented ARTIO NSW at the negotiation hearings, will lead the events.

“Maurice is well positioned to provide attendees with a sound understanding of what this Determination means for affected transport operators.”

Dates of meetings:

Sydney             May 2
Wollongong       May 3
Newcastle         May 4
