NHVR's new customer portal expands reach
NHVR says the new portal is delivering almost half of all permit applications processed.

Hailing the initial success of its new customer portal AccessCONNECT, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is reminding those customers who are still submitting heavy vehicle permit applications via email to switch to its new digital portal by the end of this month.

AccessCONNECT executive director David Carlisle says customers who have been emailing or uploading hard copy forms have until September 30 to switch across to the new portal.

However, applications by mail and fax will continue to be accepted to help those with intermittent or poor internet services.

The regulator says the new system has not only streamlined the permit application process and improved productivity since its launch.

The portal is saving access time and delivering almost half of all permit applications processed by the regulator, NHVR states.

Carlisle says the regulator is making continuous adjustments to the portal based on daily customer feedback with an aim to assist local and state road managers with their permitting tasks.

"Online form validation alone has saved industry 729 days and improved productivity by ensuring an application is completed correctly before it is submitted," Carlisle says.

"With all the additional tools the portal provides, customers can find themselves saving a day or more per permit by going online to submit their application.

"More than 1400 businesses are using the system, so we are looking to bring additional customers on board, to deliver further productivity benefits to industry."

The new system was developed with aim to bring national consistency in permit applications, improve processing transparency and reduce time and effort for operators.

"We’ve consulted a number of peak bodies across the heavy vehicle industry that have provided valuable feedback on behalf of their members."

NHVR states that the new portal has also brought about improvement in the number of pending applications, particularly those that are delayed due to missing or incorrect information.
