2016 Australian Freight Industry Awards

Toxfree Australia and Toll Tasmania bag the inaugural sustainability and waste recovery award

Victorian Freight Specialists (VFS) founding director John Rowe was named ‘Personality of the Year’ during this year’s Australian Freight Industry Awards dinner in Melbourne on Saturday.

Hosted by the Victorian Transport Association, the event celebrated the achievements of industry members across many categories, including a new sustainability and waste recovery category.

This year’s winners include:

  • Nationwide Towing & Transport for ‘Investment In People’
  • Kalari for ‘Best Practice Safety’
  • Fleet Effect for ‘Application of Technology’
  • Toxfree Australia and Toll Tasmania for Australian Transport & Logistics Waste
  • Eric Law of DP World Australia for ‘Young Achiever of the Year’

The awards were presented by roads and ports minister Luke Donnellen and VTA president Brendan Hopley as VTA CEO Peter Anderson read out the names.

“I congratulate every award winner and nominee for their wonderful achievements, and for continually investing in the industry which makes it safer and more sustainable and successful,” Anderson said.

“This is important not only for our industry, but for the broader community because transport operators have a direct or indirect connection with everyone in the community, every day.”

Anderson also paid a special tribute to Hopley, who is in his last term as the association’s president.

“Tonight’s awards are Brendan’s last in his capacity as president, and I would like to acknowledge and thank him for his many years of loyal service to the VTA as both a councillor and president,” Anderson said.

“The last two years in particular has seen a great deal of positive change at the VTA and Brendan has done a magnificent job steering us through that process to where we are today.

“I’ve appreciated Brendan’s counsel and his friendship throughout this time.”

Over 700 guests attended the event, which featured performances by many Australian artists.
