TWU NSW secretary Michael Aird resigns

The union branch and its secretary have agreed to parts ways immediately

The Transport Workers’ Union (TWU) has accepted the resignation of New South Wales secretary Michael Aird over allegations of misconduct levelled against him.

In a statement, the union says the NSW branch and Aird “today reached an agreement to resolve the differences between them” and “part ways amicably.”

“Allegations of misconduct were made against Michael,” the union says.

“He strenuously denied them.

“Michael has resigned from his employment and his elected office effective immediately.”

While it says “no findings have been made about the allegations,” the two parties are heading in different directions to “avoid disruption to the union’s important work”.

Aird stood down earlier in the year in response to the allegations made against him but returned to work in July.

The union was conducting its own investigation into the matter.
