Parcel delivery company Sendle aims to offer a "low cost" delivery network for small businesses with the launch of its new service in Tamworth, New South Wales.

Sendle CEO and co-founder James Moody says the new door-to-door package delivery service is more affordable than Australia Post – its direct competitor in the city.

The move could be yet another challenge in Australia Post’s route, with the company already facing growing competition from DHL Express, Fedex and other smaller delivery businesses such as Zoom2U – all of which have revved up parcel delivery operations in the past year.

Working with its courier partners, Sendle has built a "patchwork network" that operates across the country, Moody says.

It has tie-ups with logistical giant Toll and other delivery providers including Fastway and Couriers Please that help move its parcels using their fleet and depots.

Sendle currently offers "pick-up services at over 90 per cent locations and delivery across 100 per cent locations in Australia".

Itsflat rate national pricing and direct pickup service helps save both money and time for small to medium businesses, Moody says.

"Why should big business have a monopoly on low cost delivery networks," he adds.

"Being nestled in regional NSW means that Tamworth businesses – particularly those in e-commerce – have had to pay significantly higher delivery costs and longer waiting times.

"These businesses stand the most to gain from our flat rate national pricing and location pickup service. "

Collaborating with Fastway in Tamworth, the company is confident it can offer "quality service at more affordable prices" to patrons and one-time consumers alike.

"Sendle is not only focussed on the B2B [business to business] model but also B2C [business to consumer] transactions that have increased considerably since the advent of e-commerce," Moody says.

"We’re doing everything we can to make parcel delivery simple and fair for small businesses.

"We are now cheaper and more convenient than the post office for sending parcels from 500g up to 25kg.

"What we’re offering is the option to send a satchel without needing to line up at the post office and without the need to pre-purchase in bulk to keep costs down.

"This makes the delivery process much more economical, efficient and effective for small to medium and micro businesses."
