Great and good gain recognition for services and achievements
A string of high-profile freight, transport and logistics-related identities graced this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Ports identity and former Strang Patrick Stevedoring chairman John Strang, Scania Australia chairman Peter Duncan, federal transport department secretary Mike Mrdak and former chairman of Fremantle and Albany ports Alan Birchmore all became officers of the Order of Australia (AO).
John Begley, the former Victorian Freight and Logistics Council (VFLC) and Ministerial Freight Advisory Council (MFAC) chairman and Australian Logistics Council (ALC) director gained a member of the Order of Australia (AM).
Tarcutta resident and Australian Truck Drivers’ Memorial supporter Fay Belling gained a member of the Order of Australia (OAM).
She was joined by Automotive Holdings Group MD Bronte Howson.
Of him, AHG says: “Bronte was awarded the Medal in the Order of Australia for his services to charity, sport and business.
“In his position as managing director of Automotive Holdings Group, Bronte is recognised as one of the leading figures in the Australian automotive retail industry, with hands on experience gained in a career spanning more than 30 years.”
The ALC welcomed recognition of Mrdak’s work.
“Mike has a long and distinguished career in the transport and infrastructure portfolio and is highly respected by industry,” ALC MD Michael Kilgariff says.
“He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the infrastructure portfolio and a strong commitment to consult with stakeholders on investment and reform policy issues.
“His strategic advice to the board of ALC and insights at a number of ALC Forums on the national supply chain infrastructure and regulatory reform agenda has been invaluable and genuinely appreciated by the industry.”
