Bauer raises the bar on technical coverage

Expanded technical team provides unequalled coverage

In a major coup, Bauer Trader Media has bolstered its transport editorial team with the appointment of Steve Brooks as Technical Editor of its market-leading transport industry magazines, Owner//Driver, ATN and Deals on Wheels, and their fast-growing digital platforms.

He joins an already formidable technical editorial team comprising Matt Wood and Steve Skinner.

Steve Brooks is arguably Australia’s best known and most widely regarded trucking journalist, building a formidable reputation for authoritative reporting and candid commentary over a career spanning more than 35 years.

A formally trained and award-winning journalist, his diverse career credits include a stint as a Police officer, several years on the other side of the coin as an owner-driver, marketing executive with a major truck brand, founder and editor of two prominent truck publications, and media consultant.

Brooks will draw on his extensive experience to deliver the latest medium- and heavy-duty truck news, reviews, and other insightful features.

With Brooks on board, current Technical Editor Matt Wood is moving into an exciting new role guiding Bauer Trader Media’s dramatically expanded coverage of the booming light commercial vehicle (LCV) sector – including utes and vans – across both Bauer’s transport and machinery titles, including Earthmovers & Excavators and Farms & Farm Machinery.

Wood, who will be Technical Editor LCV & Specialised Projects, spent 17 years in transport as a local and interstate truck driver as well as fleet operations roles. After stints as a freelance contributor he joined Bauer Trader in 2012 and his opinions and insights have quickly become highly regarded by truck manufacturers throughout Australia and overseas.

Wood and Brooks have already worked closely together fronting Clash of the Titans and, most recently, Highway 31, which takes a superbly restored White 4000 and stunning new Western Star on an entertaining, nostalgic trip along sections of the old Hume Highway. Sponsored by BP Ultimate, their latest adventure will be shared via print, web, email, social media, and world-class video.

Bauer Trader Media’s General Manager, Transport, Machinery and Marine, Graham Gardiner, adds the appointment will enable the titles to produce even more of the quality editorial content that has underpinned massive growth in audience over the past 12 months.

Magazine circulation – at a combined 62,530 – has held in a declining market, while the collective digital audience has leapt 54 per cent from 117,975 to 181,866 unique visitors a month – a record high.
