Cameron leads 2015 freight industry awards
Transport industry personality of the year Glen Cameron

Victorian industry stalwart Glen Cameron has been named ‘personality of the year’ in the 2015 Australian Freight Industry Awards.

The managing director of the Glen Cameron Group – which operates around 850 trucks from depots around the country – earned the accolade for his ongoing advocacy and support for the industry.

Victorian Transport Association (VTA) CEO Peter Anderson says Cameron was selected from a wide range of high-calibre nominees.

"The quality of the more than 30 nominations that were received this year was exceptional, and on behalf of the VTA and the transport industry I congratulate award winners and nominees for their achievements and contributions to the industry," he says.

"Australian freight and logistics companies are doing phenomenal things every day, and these awards are an important way that we, as an industry, can recognise and celebrate the vital contribution of transport operators nationally to our community and our economy.

"I am continually amazed that the quality and calibre of nominations just gets better and better every year, which is proof positive that the industry is continually looking to improve and build on its achievements."

The VTA’s annual national awards ceremony was held on Saturday night in Melbourne.

Other winners celebrated during the gala presentation included Metropolitan Express Transport Services, the Victorian company winning the "Investment in People" award for its human resources development.

Prixcar Services won the ‘Investment in Technology’ award, and FBT Transwest was named a joint winner with Metropolitan Express for the "Best Practice Safety" prize.

"It is especially encouraging that at a time when operators are facing huge competitive pressures to maintain or reduce costs, they continue to make sound investments in people, technology and safety."

Around 700 industry leaders attended the awards, which were followed by an entertainment program that kept many of them dancing well into the night.
