CTAA launches professional network aimed squarely at the industry’s next generation
The Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA) is looking to cultivate the next generation of managers in the business.
It has this week launched its Young and Aspiring Managers network, aiming to bring together high potential leaders from across the sector.
CTAA hopes the industry events, to be held every two months initially, will bring young industry professionals together to network, learn new skills, and boost their future careers.
Director Gerard Langes says it is currently too easy for up and coming managers to get caught behind their computer screens day in and day out.
He says they should instead be deliberately taking time out for networking across the industry.
“Just meeting and understanding the demands on customers, suppliers and others in the transport chain is critical to being successful,” he says.
“We’re aiming to provide young people with these opportunities.”
Fellow director Neil Chambers says networking was once a natural part of every job in transport.
“When I started in the industry, you spent half your working day in other people’s offices, down at the wharf or chasing people around town – you couldn’t help but get to know a range of people,” he says.
“Email, text and the web have dramatically improved business, but the downside is that the important human interaction is often lost.”
As yet unnamed, the network will feature guest speakers and is initialy rolling out only in Melbourne.
But Langes and Chambers say the goal will be to see the network running at each of Australia’s major port cities.
