The safety scheme for livestock transport operators, TruckCare, is now under the banner of TruckSafe, the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) says.

In a message sent to industry, the ATA says TruckCare is now a voluntary module of the TruckSafe scheme.

The Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association (ALRTA), which developed TruckCare, announced in December last year that the scheme would become a part of the ATA-run TruckSafe.

The ALRTA says the move will reduce overlap and provide better value for businesses.

It will send two representatives to sit on the TruckSafe board to ensure livestock transporters have input into the running of the accreditation scheme.

TruckCare chairman Kevin Fechner says members of the TruckCare program will be invited to continue their accreditation through TruckSafe.

"We understand that some of our members may have some issues with transitioning to the program. However, we feel that this will provide the best long-term outcomes for TruckCare and our members," he says.
