Truck ban in Melbourne’s west to be removed in January 2015
A restriction imposed on B-double and HML vehicles in 2008 will be lifted.

A heavy vehicle ban in Melbourne’s west will soon be lifted.
B-doubles and higher mass limit (HML) vehicles have been restricted from using Dohertys Road between Hume Road and Cherry Lane in Laverton North since 2008.
VicRoads introduced the restrictions to protect a drain from heavy impact but is expected remove the ban next January.
Metro north west regional director Patricia Liew says VicRoads will undertake strengthening works on the drain over the next few months to prepare it for the increase in heavy vehicle movements.
"These works will boost productivity and will give heavy vehicles an easier run through the industrial precinct," Liew says.
"The current restrictions will remain in place until the works are completed."
Wyndham Industrial Liaison and Development Committee (WILD) chairman Mick O’Donnell has welcomed the news but hopes the road can accommodate heavier truck volumes.
"A question which will follow from VicRoads removing the B-double and HML load on Dohertys Road is whether there will be a new vehicle demand on this road, exacerbating the currently known safety and productivity issues associated with this road," O’Donnell says.
"Those two intersections are very dangerous intersections and we currently know that local businesses and transport companies that service our businesses are all aware of them.
"If there is an increase in traffic, particularly in heavy vehicle traffic, that will only exacerbate the safety and productivity issues that exist."
