Scales appointed as an NTC commissioner

TMR director general to bring national and international experience

Queensland’s top transport bureaucrat is now a National Transport Commission (NTI) member.

Federal infrastructure minister Warren Truss says Neil Scales will bring a wealth of experience in transport planning and leadership to the role.

Scales is already on the Transport and Infrastructure Council’s senior officials’ committee.

“He is currently the Director-General of Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), responsible for an operating budget of almost $5.5 billion and managing assets worth almost $59 billion.

“As Director-General, Mr Scales has shown outstanding commitment to transport recovery and resilience in the aftermath of floods in the state,” Truss says.

Scales would also bring an international perspective to the Commission, having previously worked in the UK transport industry.

“In the north of England, Mr Scales was the chief executive and director-general of Merseytravel, the transport authority for Merseyside,” Truss says.

“His Australian and international experience sees Mr Scales well placed to make a valuable contribution to the National Transport Commission.”

Scales’ appointment runs to the end of December 2016.
