Mack Trucks has handed over a cheque for $100,000 to the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland.
The donation follows the auction of the last Mack Southern Cross limited edition truck at the recent Commercial Vehicles Industry Association of Queensland (CVIAQ) President’s Charity Dinner.
The superb gold-coloured Mack Titan – dubbed "Goldie", and which we drove from Sydney to Tamworth earlier in the year – sold to an absentee bidder who wants to remain anonymous.
"It's essential that we give back to this community, and there's no better way to raise funds than to auction an iconic Mack truck like Goldie," says Mack Trucks Australia vice president Dean Bestwick says.
"Cancer has touched many people within Mack. The auction was an important way for us to show our support to those who’ve been affected by the disease."
The Titan sale was the highlight of the CVIAQ evening, which is the latest in a long series of CVIAQ events which have raised more than $1 million for charity in the past 12 years.
"This is an amazing donation," Helen Humphrey from the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland says.
"The money will go towards research projects around the country for better treatments, and more specifically, to enable us to provide critical care and accommodation for people who come for treatment in Brisbane or Townsville.
"Every week 42 people are diagnosed with leukaemia in Queensland, and that number is rising. As we’re not supported by direct government funding, we rely on community-minded individuals and organisations like Mack."
