Ambition to expand drives Metropolitan Express Transport Services

Metropolitan Express Transport Services opens new NSW depot and says more opportunities are coming up in South Australia and Queensland.

Construction transporter Metropolitan Express Transport Services has opened a new depot in the New South Wales region of Albury as part of its push to expand its national presence.

Company director Sam Pantou says the location will be a hub for the country region.

Metropolitan Express Transport Services currently services six major customers in the area, carrying pipes from Iplex Pipelines Australia in Albury to Melbourne and into NSW.

“We said to ourselves we’re either going to be there or not because we have a fair bit of business there,” Pantou says.

The company, which has recently won another contract, has its eyes set on national expansion, Pantou adds.

“We at the moment service Perth, Sydney and Albury but there are other opportunities coming up in the other states like South Australia and Queensland,” he says.

“There’s a lot of opportunities out there for us at the moment and things are looking promising. Being in a niche market it’s been good for us.”

Metropolitan Express Transport Services stays different from others by being innovative and listening to its customers, Pantou adds.

“If you speak to your customers they most of the time tell you what they require and it’s up to you to explore through your suppliers whether those things that customers are asking for can be achieved,” he says.

“Customers are more receptive to ideas but everyone is still very cautious with cost too. There’s still that fear where if you present something new customers are still mindful of cost so you have to introduce innovation but be mindful of cost as everyone is hurting at the moment.

“It’s difficult trying to make both work.”

Metropolitan Express Transport Services has recently completed renovations of its head office in Melbourne’s Notting Hill.

“When you’ve got a nice environment to work in people enjoy being in the surroundings and it’s been a very well received building by staff,” Pantou says.
