The managing director of Alliance Transport has been appointed to take the lead on port-related issues affecting New South Wales trucking operators.

The NSW branch of the Australian Trucking Association (ATA NSW) has named John Preston as the new chair of its container carrier sub-committee.

Preston has been involved in the transport industry since 1985 and started Alliance Transport with Anthony Wiles in 2008. The business is now a mid-sized player operating in the port area.

"As chair, my priorities are to maintain the focus on improving port efficiency through the PBLIS [Port Botany Landside Improvement Strategy] process and to ensure fair treatment for transport businesses operating within the ports space," Preston says.

"An important part of this is to improve the consistency of turnaround time and two way running in the waterfront area."

ATA NSW manager Jodie Broadbent has welcomed Preston’s appointment.

"John comes to the position of chair with extensive experience in the port logistics space and we’re delighted that he has accepted this challenging role," she says.
