Hino lands Woolworths contract

Light duty 300 series trucks added to existing Hinos for supermarket giant’s online delivery fleet

Woolworths has taken delivery of what Hino says is a “large consignment” of 300 Series trucks, adding to the Hinos already operating as part of the Woolworths Online delivery vehicle fleet.

The 616 IFS 300 Series units have a standard cab, automatic transmission and medium wheelbase.

They are fitted with TRS-built bodies that are custom made to transport groceries at a range of different temperatures.

Hino says the trucks were selected after a “rigorous tender process”.

“Our tender process involved road testing and comparisons with other brands on our fleet, and this confirmed our belief that Hino makes a good product,” Woolworths logistics manager Gavin Keelty says.

“The drivers tested a range of different vehicles and provided positive feedback on the new Hinos.

“Our bodybuilders confirmed that the 616 IFS 300 Series would be able to support the kind of application we need it for, and we also made sure that the service network and aftersales support met our standards.

The Hino 616 IFS differs from other 300 Series models because of its independent double-wishbone coil front suspension, which Hino says gives a more car-like ride and handling balance.

As with other 300 Series models it has vehicle stability control as standard.

Keelty says the fully automatic transmissions and fitment of twin reversing cameras were also well regarded.

Woolworths Online says it delivers groceries ordered online to households in 96 per cent of the populated regions of Australia.
