Nominations open for 2014 Australian Freight Industry Awards

Awards span seven categories and will be handed out on September 6.

Nominations for this year’s Victorian Transport Association (VTA) Australian Freight Industry Awards have now opened.

Nominations for the awards across seven categories opened yesterday and will close on Friday, August 8.

The awards, now in their 25th year, will be presented on September 6 at Crown Palladium Ballroom in Melbourne.

“For over 24 years these awards have recognised the people and companies who have contributed to shaping the industry into what it is today and into the future. Saturday, September 6 will once again be a fantastic evening to celebrate this industry,” VTA CEO Neil Chambers says.

Categories up for grabs include the Investment in People, Best Practice Safety, Technology and Young Achiever of the Year awards.

Nominations also cover Business Sustainability, Equipment Innovation and Personality of the Year.

The Investment in People Award applies to programs or initiatives businesses are implementing to recruit, train or retain staff, while Best Practice Safety covers innovative and practical safety solutions to improve road or workplace safety.

The VTA says the Technology Award identifies an individual, group or organisation that has introduced technology into their business to improve operations.

The Young Achiever prize is designed to recognise young up and coming people in the industry who have displayed strong work ethic, attitude and initiative.

The Business Sustainability Award will be handed to a company that has shown a commitment to sustainability, such as meeting environmental outcomes, reducing emissions and implementing best practice management techniques.

Meanwhile, the Equipment Innovation Award will go to a company that has developed an innovation to enhance operator safety and/or efficiency.

Finally, the Personality of the Year Award will be handed to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the transport and logistics industry over a long period of time.

“The judges will look for specific business initiatives, commitment to people, contribution to the transport and logistics industry, profile in the community and overall leadership qualities,” the VTA says.
